Toulouse
La Ville Rose – the capital of southern France
Called the pink city after its brick façades. See the Basilique Saint-Sernin, the Place du Capitole and the Canal du Midi. With children: the Cité de l'Espace (space centre) and Aeroscopia by the Airbus factory.
The history of the Cathars
Counts Raymond VI and Raymond VII were the protectors of the Cathars. During the siege of 1218 Simon de Montfort was killed by a stone outside the city walls, and in 1229 the county lost its independence. The Inquisition held its first tribunal here.
