Fanjeaux and Prouille
Cathar centre and cradle of the Dominicans
The hilltop village above the Lauragais was a Cathar centre, and below it Dominic founded the convent of Prouille. From the 'Seignadou' there is a sweeping view over the plain.
The history of the Cathars
Fanjeaux was a Cathar centre where Esclarmonde de Foix received the consolamentum in 1204. Dominic preached here against the Cathars and in 1206 founded the convent at Prouille.
