Baqueira Beret

Baqueira Beret is Spain's largest and best-known ski resort. It opened in 1964 in the Val d'Aran, the only Catalan valley on the northern side of the Pyrenees, and therefore often gets more snow than the resorts further south. The area has four sectors: Baqueira, Beret, Bonaigua and Baciver. As well as 169 km of pistes, there are four off-piste routes. The Spanish royal family skis here, and the Tour de France has finished at Pla de Beret (2006), as has the Vuelta a España several times.

Bus
ALSA buses from Barcelona and Lleida to Vielha and Baqueira. Free shuttle bus from the large car park in Baqueira village to the lifts, and ski buses in the Val d'Aran.
Car
From Vielha via the C-28 to Baqueira (14 km). From France via the N-125/N-230 and Pont du Roy. From the Pallars via the Port de la Bonaigua (C-28), which may close in snowfall. Parking is available at Baqueira 1500 (including a car park with 1,500 spaces) and free at Orri, Beret and Bonaigua. Winter tyres or chains compulsory.
