Grotte de la Vache
The Stone Age hunters' winter home
The cave at Alliat, opposite Niaux, was a winter home for hunters in the Magdalenian period 15,000–12,000 years ago. The archaeologist Romain Robert excavated here from 1940, and around 400 decorated objects of bone and antler were found. The tour shows how people lived, hunted and cooked.
TipsGuided tour of 1 h 15. A good complement to the paintings at Niaux on the other side of the valley.
