Les Aigles du Château de Lordat

Tame eagles – fantastic

From the 2014 guide – ThomasBetween Tarascon and Ax there's an old Cathar castle (destroyed by Simon de Montfort) on a hilltop with magnificent views over the Ariège valley. Here they have “tame” birds of prey that fly freely and come back, everything from golden eagles to gyrfalcons and great grey owls. We chatted with them once – they've been to Sweden and Norway many times to watch birds of prey. We thought it was an absolutely fantastic show.

The flying displays run during the season (roughly April–October). Check the times on the website and arrive in good time.
