Grand Tourmalet (La Mongie–Barèges)

Haute-Bigorre and Pays Toy (Bagnères-de-Bigorre/Barèges), Hautes-Pyrénées

Grand Tourmalet is the largest ski area in the French Pyrenees, linking the modern resort of La Mongie with the old spa town of Barèges on either side of the Col du Tourmalet. The Barèges side offers tree-lined pistes, La Mongie steeper and higher skiing. From La Mongie the cable car runs up to the Pic du Midi (2,877 m), home to the observatory and a famous freeride descent. The Col du Tourmalet is the Tour de France's most climbed pass and has featured on the route since 1910.
