Pau
Beautiful town, château and fine mountain views
From the 2014 guide – ThomasThis is one of the most beautiful towns in southern France. A château in the middle of town, and then the Boulevard des Pyrénées has a magnificent view of the mountains. Our dyslexic king's dynasty comes from this town – Bonaparte's general Bernadotte.
Bernadotte's birthplace (Musée Bernadotte) is in the old town. Pau is one of the Tour de France's most visited stage towns and the starting point for the reverse queen stage in this guide.
