Lourdes
Place of pilgrimage for Catholics
From the 2014 guide – ThomasA rather bizarre place! Catholics make pilgrimages here. In a grotto Bernadette saw the Virgin Mary, and people still come here today to be healed – there have been wheelchairs and crutches left in the grotto!
Around six million visitors a year. The evening candlelight procession (April–October) is an experience even for non-believers. The Château fort above the town has a Pyrenean museum.
