Taillón lies on the same ridge as the Brèche de Roland, the gap that, according to legend, the knight Roland cut with his sword. The route passes it, giving you a 3,000-metre peak and the legend in a single day.

How to get up – the normal route step by step

  1. From Col des Tentes along the old road to Port de Boucharo and then up to Refuge des Sarradets.
  2. Across the snowfield below the Brèche de Roland and up through the gap (2 807 m) – the view down towards Ordesa is fantastic.
  3. Follow the path west on the Spanish side below the ridge, past the Doigt and Fausse Brèche towers.
  4. The last stretch up onto the broad summit. Descend the same way.
SafetyThe snowfield below the Brèche de Roland can be icy – crampons are often needed until mid-July. Without snow the route is a long but easy mountain hike.
