From the mid-18th century the mild winter climate made Nice a resort for Europe's upper classes. The World Heritage site covers the districts that grew up for the winter guests, with the Promenade des Anglais, villas, palace hotels and parks.
Visit: Walk the Promenade des Anglais to the Colline du Château for the view, and on to the old town, Vieux Nice.
