Oppidum d'Ensérune & Malpas
A Gallic town, a circular field and a canal tunnel
An excavated Iron Age town on a hill west of Béziers. From the viewpoint you can see the Étang de Montady – a lake drained in 1247 that is now a circular field divided into slices like a cake. Directly beneath the hill runs the Malpas tunnel from 1679, the world's first canal tunnel.
