UNESCO World Heritage
The Causses and the Cévennes
- World Heritage since
- 2011
A mountainous cultural landscape shaped by three thousand years of shepherding and transhumance: limestone plateaus (causses), deep gorges and the forested Cévennes mountains with stone villages, drove roads and sheepfolds. The sheep still move between summer and winter pastures.
Visit: Drive or cycle across the Causse Méjean and down through the Gorges du Tarn. Florac and Millau are good bases.
